Biggles is your go-to coding assistant that makes adding and changing code a breeze, whether by voice or typing!
Biggles is a handy tool that you can find on GitHub. It’s designed to help you insert new lines of code or tweak existing ones easily. You can use voice commands or type out your instructions—whatever works best for you! By default, when you tell Biggles what you need, it will add new code right where your cursor is currently located. If you want to change some existing code, simply highlight it and let Biggles know what modifications you want.
This fantastic tool is powered by OpenAI's Whisper and ChatGPT APIs, giving it the ability to understand and follow your requests. To get started, you'll need to enter your own OpenAI API key, which gives Biggles the access it needs. To ensure that the AI understands the code correctly, Biggles shares snippets from just before and after your cursor position for better context.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that Biggles does have some limitations. Its understanding of your entire code base isn't comprehensive—it mainly focuses on what's immediately around your cursor. You can tweak how much context is sent to ChatGPT in the settings, adjusting the number of tokens according to your needs. Biggles operates in two main modes: if nothing is selected, it will add new code; if you have selected a block of code, it’s ready to help you modify it. Just note that it currently can't handle more complex tasks, like moving code around.
In summary, Biggles is a supportive coding companion that enhances your coding journey in Visual Studio Code by allowing you to seamlessly add and adjust code with the ease of voice or text instructions!
